FIELD: electronic engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electronic engineering, namely to cathode assemblies for powerful electron beam guns, and can be used, in particular, in the design of the cathode assembly of a powerful electron beam gun for melting refractory metals. The cathode assembly of the electron beam gun contains a hot cathode with a front emitting surface, a heating block and a forming electrode installed with a gap relative to the lateral surface of the hot cathode. The hot cathode is made with a flat emitting surface and has a zero potential ϕ = 0. The forming electrode has a negative potential with respect to the hot cathode, and the gap is formed by the inner wall of the forming electrode and the lateral surface of the hot cathode making an angle of 67.5 degrees with its front surface. The position of the inner wall of the forming electrode relative to the lateral surface of the hot cathode is determined by the distance d set along the beam at an angle of 135 degrees from the direction of the electron beam flow. The shape of the inner wall of the forming electrode is set by two straight lines and a circular arc that connects them
EFFECT: increasing the reliability of work, increasing the resource of the cathode assembly and the powerful electron beam gun as a whole.
