FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of metallurgical production; it can be used for determining parameters in a toe of a metallurgical converter in order to control the casting process. The method includes generating in a coil surrounding a toe outlet AC with a preset frequency using a power supply unit and evaluating and determining parameters in the toe by means of this unit. As a coil, an induction heater coil is used, and current values of impedance of this coil or its impedance and current induced in it are determined, current values of such toe parameters as: a proportion of slag in molten metal during casting, a degree of wear of refractory parts in a filling channel, the presence of solidified molten metal or clogging material in the filling channel are evaluated. Based on the comparison of obtained current values with their calibration reference values, a shut-off toe element is actuated, and metal in the filling channel is heated, or the filling channel is restored. The invention also concerns the corresponding device.
EFFECT: use of the invention allows for expanding technological capabilities of the method and device.
