FIELD: medical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates in general to needle safety nodes and safe intravenous catheters (hereinafter – IVC) and, in particular, to a safe IVC, in which a needle tip is automatically closed after removing the needle to prevent an unintentional prick with the needle tip. A safe intravenous catheter node is proposed, containing: (a) a needle with a needle tip and a diameter, as well as with a bulge near the needle tip; (b) a needle protection device containing: a base part made of non-metallic material and containing a proximal wall having a channel with a channel diameter and a channel length; the first arm containing the first free end containing an inclined end section with the first side face, the second side face, length (Ln) and width (W); the second arm containing the second free end; an insert made of metal and fixed in the channel of the proximal wall of the base part; a space enclosing the needle tip, defined at least partially by the base part, the first arm, the second arm and the inclined end section; and in which the first and the second arms of the needle protection device pass essentially axially in the distal direction from the base part of the needle protection device; the first free end of the first arm passes beyond the second free end of the second arm, and the inclined end section passes towards the second arm; the first arm and the second arm are made with the possibility of movement between a ready position, in which the inclined end section rests against the needle, and a protected position, in which the bulge rests against the insert, and the needle tip is in the space enclosing the needle tip; the width (W) of the inclined end section is from 125% to 300% larger than the needle diameter.
EFFECT: invention provides an increase in the safety and efficiency of an intravenous catheter.
