FIELD: testing equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of flaw detection of power transmission lines. According to the method, the phase electrical quantities at the measurement site are converted into a controlled signal and the moment of occurrence of the front of the initial wave is determined in it. Through information transmission channels, information is received from another device about the moment of occurrence of the front of the initial wave in its controlled signal and the duration of the interval between the moments of occurrence of the fronts of the initial waves is determined. In each device, at the moment of occurrence of the front of the initial wave, a time counter is started, according to the distance to the damage site determined differently, an estimate of the moment of occurrence of the front of the first wave reflected from the damage site is found and a time window is set relative to it. The wave propagation speed in the damaged section is defined as the speed at which the wave travels a distance equal to twice the length of the damaged section in a time equal to the sum of the readings of the time counters of its own and other devices.
EFFECT: simplification of determining the distance to the damage site.
