FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, namely to relay protection and automation, and can be used to determine the location of damage to a power line with cable inserts (CI). according to the information about the moment of occurrence of the fronts of the initial waves, the device is determined, in the controlled signal of which the front of the initial wave occurs earlier than in the other device, and it is taken as the leader, and the other device as the driven. In each device, the values of the main and additional signals are formed, which are proportional to the intrinsic wave propagation characteristic and the wave propagation characteristic of the other device, respectively. When forming the characteristics of wave propagation for the driven device, the time is counted from zero, and for the leading device - from a value equal to the difference in the times of occurrence of the fronts of the initial waves in the controlled signals of the driven and leader devices. The main and additional signals are compared by a comparator. The coordinate on the CI, at which the value of the main signal exceeds the value of the additional signal and leads to the operation of the comparator, is taken as the location of the damage.
