FIELD: testing equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of flaw detection of power transmission lines. According to the method, the damage site is determined based on the actual speed of wave propagation in the power transmission line. For this purpose, the phase electrical quantities at the measurement site are converted into a controlled signal and the moment of occurrence of the front of the initial wave is detected in it. By the distance to the damage site determined differently, estimates of the moments of occurrence of the front of the initial wave reflected from the damage site and the front of the first wave reflected from the opposite end of the transmission line are found. With respect to the mentioned estimates of the moments of occurrence of fronts, windows are set, within which the front of the initial wave reflected from the damage site and the front of the first wave reflected from the opposite end of the transmission line are detected and the moments of their occurrence are revealed, the wave propagation velocity in the transmission line is determined based on the time of the distance run by the wave equal to twice the length of the power line.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of determining the distance to the damage site.
