SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a cartridge assembly and to a cartridge for an aerosol generating system, to such a system and a kit for an aerosol generating system. Cartridge assembly (120) for aerosol generating system (10) contains: casing (122) having air outlet (122b) and air inlet (122a) located upstream relatively to air outlet (122b) of the casing; and cartridge (130) located inside the casing. The cartridge contains: fluid-permeable heating element (128) in a cartridge case; air inlet (130a) of the cartridge; air outlet (130b) of the cartridge; and an air flow path passing from the air inlet of the cartridge to the air outlet of the cartridge through the fluid-permeable heating element. At least part of the cartridge is made with the possibility of movement between: the first position, in which air from the air inlet of the casing is blocked from flowing to the air outlet of the casing, through the air inlet of the cartridge, the fluid-permeable heating element and the air outlet of the cartridge; and the second position, in which an unlimited air flow path is located from the air inlet of the casing to the air outlet of the casing, through the air inlet of the cartridge, the fluid-permeable heating element and the air outlet of the cartridge.

EFFECT: possibility of choosing, whether to open an air flow path, for example, when a consumer wants to use an assembly in an aerosol generating system; or leave the air flow path closed, for example, when the consumer does not want to use the assembly in the aerosol generating system; by making it possible to close the air flow path, when the assembly is not used, the probability of accidental leakage of fluid from the assembly can be reduced.
