FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely ophthalmology, and can be used to predict the development of macular neovascularization in patients with type 2 macular telangiectasia. Retinal vessels are examined using optical coherence tomography with the function of angiography. The density of surface and deep vessels in the temporal quadrant of the parafovea is determined. Then, the vascular density index of the examined patient is calculated as a quotient of the ratio of the density of deep vessels to the density of surface vessels. Additionally, the values of the vascular density index are calculated in persons without pathology with the maximum corrected visual acuity equal to 1.0. Its maximum value equal to 1.15 is chosen and taken as the norm value. The vascular density index of the examined patient is compared with the norm value. If the value of the vascular density index of the examined patient is equal to or greater than the norm, a high risk of macular neovascularization of the examined patient is predicted.
EFFECT: method provides prediction of the development of macular neovascularization in patients with type 2 macular telangiectasia by quantifying the vascular density index.
