FIELD: fire-fighting.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the fire-retardant industry and can be used for producing pressed products and stuffing carbon-containing fired and non-fired refractories used in metallurgical units as a lining material and resistant to heat shocks, effects of high temperatures, erosion in aggressive oxidising media. Proposed method for producing a fire-retardant carbon-containing article includes preparing graphite grains from an electrode graphite of the 0.5 to 2 mm fraction and an exothermic composition consisting of powders of Al, Mg, Si metals and alloys thereof as combustible fuel and reactive carbide-forming oxidisers in the form of one or a mixture of ores, concentrates, and metallurgical waste, as well as fine reactive graphite of the 0 to 100 mcm fraction with the following ratio thereof, namely metal powders : reactive carbide-forming oxidisers : fine reactive graphite - 1 to 3:3 to 9:0.5 to 1. The graphite grains are mixed with an organic binder, an exothermic composition is added, and the finely dispersed mixture is applied to the surface of the graphite grains by rolling, resulting in pellets of a layered structure with a strong shell. The resulting layered granules are dried at 150 to 200°C until total polymerisation of the organic bond. Then the dried layered granules are mixed with the organic binder and the exothermic composition, a charge mass is formed, adding a finely dispersed inorganic binder made of magnesium salts, used to shape articles subsequently dried and fired at 800 to 1,000°C.
EFFECT: increase in the oxidation resistance of the carbon-containing fire-retardant material, the adhesive and structural strength, heat resistance and slag resistance thereof.
