SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, namely, to pathological anatomy. In order to diagnose atrophy of the antral glands, immunohistochemical staining is performed using smooth muscle actin (SMA); then, positive cytoplasmic staining of the cells of the muscle plate of the mucous membrane forming a solid line parallel to the slice surface, constituting the criterion for the correct orientation of the slice. Correctly oriented slices undergo immunohistochemical staining using MUC6 antibodies. The ratio of the length of the MUC6 expression-free area to the length of the MUC6 expression area is then calculated in 10 glands of the antral mucosa; the arithmetic mean is determined. With the arithmetic mean equal to or less than 2, the absence of atrophy of the antral mucosa is determined. With the value greater than 2, but less than 3, a weak degree of atrophy is determined. With the value greater than 3, but less than 4, a moderate degree of atrophy is determined. With the value of the ratio greater than 4, a pronounced degree of atrophy is determined.

EFFECT: method provides a possibility of eliminating the tangential nature of the slice by estimating the expression of smooth muscle actin, facilitates interpretation of the result of estimation, ensures high reproducibility of diagnostics in the practice of study of the biopsy material.
