FIELD: material processing.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to material processing by cutting; it can be used in milling of part surfaces. An indexable cutting insert contains opposite upper and lower surfaces and a peripheral surface containing three side surfaces alternating in a circumferential direction with three angular surfaces. Three side surfaces define an imaginary triangle and an imaginary hexagon. Each angular surface crosses an upper end surface in such a way that it forms an upper angular peripheral edge with the main cutting edge. When viewed from above, each side of the triangle crosses two upper angular peripheral edges. Imaginary lines tangential to end points of each main cutting edge are collinear or form an obtuse main bending angle of more than 175°. The insert is fixed with the possibility of removal in a rotating cutting tool.
EFFECT: reliable fixation of a cutting insert, and possibility of milling of beveled surfaces.
