FIELD: material processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a rotary cutting tool with a disc-shaped cutting case, and an indexed cutting insert for it for the use in metal processing by cutting in general, as well as for operations of cutting out grooves and slots in particular. The rotary cutting tool has a disc-shaped cutting case with a set of sockets for accommodation of an insert and an equal number of identical indexed cutting inserts retained in them with the possibility of separation and having opposite upper and lower surfaces and opposite the first and the second end surfaces of the insert. The first and the second cutting edges are formed at the intersection of the upper surface and the first and the second end surfaces of the insert, respectively. Cutting inserts adjacent in circumference have different inserts from their first and second end surfaces, being in contact with a rear wall of the socket for the accommodation of the insert. The first and the second planes are equidistantly displaced from opposite sides of the cutting case, wherein the first plane intersects only the first cutting edge of each cutting insert alternating in circumference and does not intersect any of the second cutting edges, and the second plane intersects only the second cutting edge of each cutting insert alternating in circumference and does not intersect any of the first cutting edges.
EFFECT: creation of an improved rotary cutting tool made with the possibility of implementation of cutting operations with high feed rates.
