FIELD: medicine; dentistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to dentistry; it can be used for the prediction of teething of the third molars on the lower jaw. Orthopantomography of the patient’s lower jaw is carried out. Angles of inclination formed by a line connecting vertices of bulges of the third molars and a perpendicular to a plane of the base of the lower jaw are determined. At the same time, a distance from alveolar buttress of the lower jaw to a rudiment of the third molar is additionally measured on an orthopantomogram. At a distance from alveolar buttress to the rudiment of the third molar of more than 2.0 mm and an angle of inclination of more than 70°, its teething is predicted. At a distance of less than 2.0 mm and an angle of inclination of less than 70°, retention of the tooth is predicted.

EFFECT: method provides for an accurate prediction of teething of the third molars on the lower jaw due to the claimed criteria of teething and retention of the tooth.
