FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used to determine the initial manifestations of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). In patients with suspected glaucoma, confocal microscopy is performed in the central zone of the cornea. The total length of the corneal nerve fibers (CNF) of the subbasal nerve plexus, the density of the CNF and the number of subepithelial macrophages are determined. When the total CNF length is below 42.8 mm/mm2, the CNF density is below 22.8 fibers/mm2, and the number of macrophages is above 6.4, the initial manifestations of POAG are determined.
EFFECT: method enables timely start of POAG treatment due to confocal microscopy data.
