FIELD: processing of materials by cutting.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions can be used for milling shoulders with angle of 90° using cutters with cutting inserts and a tool holder with a small diameter. One-sided four-way indexable cutting insert comprises a positive main shape, an inclined surface, a peripheral surface, including four side thrust surfaces, main bearing surface and screw hole connecting inclined and main bearing surfaces. Insert has an imaginary square truncated part, which forms a square base containing the main bearing surface of the cutting insert, and additionally forms four isosceles trapezoidal side surfaces, respectively containing four side thrust surfaces of the cutting insert. Volume VF of the cutting insert material and the volume Vs of the insert cavity satisfy the condition VS/VF ≥ 0.25.
EFFECT: improved design of cutting insert and tool holder.
