FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to apparatuses for relay protection and automation at digital electric substations. The technical result is achieved by the communication network of a digital substation based on a passive optical network containing a central server connected with the processing nodes via intermediate optical splitters dividing the optical signal from the central server into n+1 optical signals; wherein the processing node transmits normal data blocks to the central server periodically or cyclically, said blocks containing time-critical data, as well as sporadic data blocks; the network processing node transmits unified and synchronised data blocks; prior to transmitting sporadic data blocks, the apparatuses transmit the length of the next message to the server in order to redistribute the width of the time domain and ensure the necessary channel width, and the transmission of sporadic blocks with the lowest priority is delayed until the transmission of normal blocks and sporadic blocks with higher priority is complete.

EFFECT: reduced signal transmission delays in the operation of emergency protection automation and increased stability of the information network under high information load.
