FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, in particular, to surgery, and can be used to diagnose the risk of damage to the recurrent nerve when removing a lobe or the entire thyroid gland. Neuromonitoring of the integrity of the recurrent nerve is conducted using an electrode which records ECG signals continuously and transmits pulses to the neuromonitor for the entire duration of the operation. The recording electrode is placed on the surface of the chest in the area of the heart view. Neuromonitoring is conducted by analysing the variability of the heart rate. Risk of damage to the recurrent nerve is diagnosed when high-frequency fluctuations (HF) are recorded with the duration of inter-systolic intervals in the range of 2 to 3 ms and 20 to 30 ms with a sensitivity of the ECG signal of 1,000±3 Hz.

EFFECT: significant increase in the safety of surgical intervention when removing the thyroid gland; prevented postoperative complications with disturbed phonation.
