FIELD: metalworking.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a device and method for making a groove on the surface of an object using laser beams (LB) and can be used, for example, in the field of steel plate metalworking. The light source device outputs laser beams (LB). The polygonal mirror (10) reflects the laser beams coming out of the light source device. The concentrating optical system is located in the optical path of the laser beams (LB) reflected by the polygonal mirror (10) and focuses the laser beams (LB). The shielding plate (35) is placed between the concentrating optics and the object in a position that blocks some of the laser beams (LB) being focused by the concentrating optics. Among the laser beams (LB) focused by the concentrating optical system, some of the laser beams (LB) that are not blocked by the shielding plate (35) form a groove on the surface of the object at the focus of the laser beams (LB). The shielding plate (35) is placed closer to the concentrating optical system than the focus and rotates relative to the object surface so as to block laser beams (LB) that do not form a groove.
EFFECT: preventing contamination of the optical components and providing a given groove depth and a given groove position direction.
