SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to medicine, namely to a method, device and system for determining the location of gingival inflammation in the user's oral cavity. The method is performed using an oral care device. The oral care device contains light sources, a light detector, and a controller. When executing the method, light sources sequentially emit light according to the first sequential pattern. The pattern represents the order in which the light sources are activated. The light sources are configured to emit light to obtain the wavelengths of the emitted light. Sequentially emit light sources in the second sequential pattern. The second pattern is the reverse of the first sequential pattern. The reflectance measurement values are obtained by the light detector to generate the first reflectivity data for the location in response to the light emitted by the first pattern, and to generate the second reflectivity data for the location in response to the light emitted by the second pattern. The controller averages the first and second reflectance data for each of the emitted light wavelengths to generate average reflectance data. Using the average reflectance data, it is determined whether the indicated location contains gingiva and whether the gingiva is inflamed at that location. In another embodiment, the oral care device comprises light detectors, wherein the detector detects light reflected from tissue at a location on the gum. Here, reflectance data is generated from the detected light. A device for locating gingivitis in a user's mouth contains a controller and an oral care device. A system for locating gingival inflammation in a user's mouth contains a controller, light sources, and a light detector. In another embodiment, the system also includes an oral care device.
EFFECT: invention provides the possibility to detect localized gingival inflammation during oral care taking into account the movement of the user's hand in the course of detecting localized gingival inflammation.
