FIELD: biotechnology and animal husbandry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the agricultural field of biotechnology and animal husbandry, and in particular to methods for selecting animals in pig breeding for diagnosing the breeding value of Duroc pigs in the early stages of development. The method includes DNA isolation, gene fragment amplification using primers 5'-TACCCTGACCATCTTGATTG-3', 5'-ATAGCAACAGATGATCTCTTTG-3', restriction of the amplified MC4R gene fragment with TaqI restriction endonuclease, genotyping and selection of gilts with the AA/MC4R genotype, boars with the genotype GG. Animals with the AA/MC4R genotype have high rates of average daily gain, body length, and low rates of age to reach a live weight of 100 kg and bacon thickness. The presence of the GG genotype for the gene in boars is associated with the best indicators of average daily gain, body length and fat thickness.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to more effectively diagnose the breeding value of Duroc pigs and to select animals with genetically confirmed breeding value at an early age, as well as to increase the debugged accuracy in breeding work and reliability in the genetic potential of breeding pigs.
