FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for treatment of ophthalmic diseases. A method for treating a patient with a reduced or low level of production/release/delivery/release of hyaluronic acid from the cornea and/or into the cornea includes the step of locally administering to the patient's eye a composition containing: i) a safe and effective amount of one or more extracts, or sources of extracts, yeast of the genus Pichia to achieve a concentration of yeast extract of the genus Pichia in the corneal fluid in the tissues of the cornea of the eye of at least 0.3 mg/ml, in which the yeast extract of the genus Pichia is Pichia anomala; and ii) an ophthalmologically acceptable carrier.
EFFECT: using the invention allows to induce, stimulate and/or improve the production/release/delivery/release of hyaluronic acid from the cornea and/or into the cornea.
