SUBSTANCE: ophthalmic composition contains from 0.005 to 95% of the total composition weight of one or more extracts, or sources of extracts, of yeast of the genus Pichia, in which the extract from the genus Pichia is Pichia anomala, as well as an ophthalmologically acceptable carrier. In another embodiment, a method is provided for the production/release/delivery/release of mucin from the cornea and/or into the cornea, comprising the step of administering this composition. Also provided is a method of maintaining the concentration of MU5ACin the tear fluid in the range of 8 to 15 nanograms per milligram of protein or higher, a method of treating a patient with reduced or low production/release/delivery/release of mucin from the cornea and/or to the cornea, a method of promoting healing or increasing the rate of healing of wounds in the eye and/or on the surface of the patient's eye; and a method for improving the antimicrobial properties of the patient's lacrimal fluid.

EFFECT: use of the group of inventions makes it possible to stimulate and/or improve the production and/or release of mucin from the cornea and/or into the cornea.
