FIELD: medicine; ophthalmology.
SUBSTANCE: method is intended for the treatment of dry eye syndrome. The method for producing/release/delivering/discharge of mucin from the cornea and/or into the cornea includes the step of administering a composition containing a safe and effective amount of an extract having retinol-like properties and/or beneficial effects for use in the treatment of dry eye syndrome, selected from one or more of plant extracts or sources of extracts containing Acronychia acidula. In other embodiments, a method for treating a patient with reduced or low levels of production/release/delivery/secretion of hyaluronic acid from and/or into the cornea and a method for promoting healing or increasing the rate of healing of wounds within and/or on the surface of the patient's eye, comprising administering this composition.
EFFECT: induction, stimulation and/or improvement of the production/release/delivery/secretion of mucin from the cornea and/or into the cornea, which provides increased effectiveness in preventing or treating symptoms associated with dry eye, as well as stimulating healing or increasing the rate of healing of wounds inside and/or on the surface of the patient's eye.
