FIELD: forestry; agriculture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for digging planting holes in the soil before planting seedlings and yearling of forest and agricultural crops. The method for preparing planting holes includes installing a depth limiter, placing a pipe with a gate valve on the soil surface in a vertical position and pressing on the pipe, gradually penetrating the pipe into the soil surface. In this case, the depth limiter is installed by placing fingers in pre-aligned holes made at the free end of each of the side levers installed on the rotary jaws of the gate valve and in the supporting elements. The pipe is introduced into the soil simultaneously with the opening of the gate valve by turning the jaws of the gate valve around the axes of their attachment to the pipe until the stops mounted on the side levers come into contact with the outer surface of the pipe. After that, the pipe is removed from the soil, simultaneously closing the gate valve by turning its jaws around the axes of their attachment to the pipe due to their own weight.
EFFECT: invention provides reduction of labour intensity when digging planting holes in the soil achieved due to automatic opening and closing of the gate valve in the process of forming a planting hole, as well as automatic maintenance of the set depth of the formed planting hole.
