FIELD: waveguide optics.
SUBSTANCE: methods for creating optical channel waveguides, used in integrated optics for the manufacture of waveguides and waveguide structures, as well as in the creation of active and passive elements from a single crystal of lithium niobate (LiNbO3). The method for forming an optical waveguide includes the formation of a region with an increased refractive index in a lithium niobate crystal placed on a heating element. In this case, laser radiation focused on the input face with a wavelength of 457 nm, a radiation power of 0.15 mW, with coinciding polarization with the optical axis of the crystal and a light field diameter of 10 μm, is supplied to the crystal, and at the same time, the crystal is dynamically heated by 6° C for 65 s until the diffraction divergence is fully compensated.
EFFECT: exclusion of the introduction of impurities into the lithium niobate crystal, reduction of the operating temperature to ΔT=6°C and the duration of the waveguide formation process up to 65 s.
