SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the generation of electrical energy in a microbial fuel cell and can be used simultaneously with biological wastewater treatment. An increase in the power of a microbial fuel cell is a technical result of the invention, which is achieved due to the fact that the installation contains a cylindrical body, electrodes placed in an anaerobic nutrient medium, the cathode space is filled with a pure culture of an electrotroph microorganism, the anode space is filled with a pure culture of an electrogenic microorganism, acetate is the carbon source at the anode, and the source of carbon at the cathode is CO2 in the form of gas or carbonic acid salts. A method for generating electrical energy with the participation of microorganisms is also proposed, including assembly of the installation, autoclaving, filling the anode and cathode spaces with the same anaerobic nutrient medium and maintaining anaerobic conditions, inoculating pure cultures of microorganisms previously grown to the maximum possible cell density into the anode and cathode spaces, achieving equilibrium of processes, ensuring uniform circulation between the cathode and anode spaces.
