METHOD FOR DETECTING A HIGH RISK OF SEVERE BRAIN DAMAGE IN NEWBORNS WITH HYPOXIC-ISCHEMIC LESIONS OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC G01N33/68 G01N33/49

Abstract RU 2795962 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to neurology, and can be used to detect a high risk of severe brain damage in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic lesions of the central nervous system. The level of protein S-100 and the level of neuron-specific enolase in the child's blood serum are determined. The study is carried out twice on the fifth and on the twenty-second day of a child's life, the dynamics of the S-100 protein level and the level of neuron-specific enolase in the blood serum are compared. An increase in the level of S-100 protein by 10% or more in the second study, combined with the absence of changes in the level of neuron-specific enolase from the initial values, reveals a high risk of severe brain damage in newborns with hypoxic-ischemic lesions of the central nervous system. In case of any other result the risk is low.

EFFECT: method enables early detection among newborns with hypoxic-ischemic lesions of the central nervous system of children with a high risk of severe brain damage requiring special treatment by determining the level of S-100 protein and the level of neuron-specific enolase in the blood.
