FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pathological anatomy and oncology, and can be used to assess the aggressive potential of breast cancer of the non-specific type IDC/NOS type carcinoma. The method includes conducting a histological examination, for which the preparations are first stained with hematoxylin and eosin; clusters of tumor cells up to 5 are determined, growing both within the main tumor and invading the resection margins, and tumor buds are counted in 10 non-overlapping high-power fields/HPF, x400. A two-stage grading system is then used to evaluate tumor budding. With a result of 0 to 10 kidneys, a low degree of tumor budding is determined that is not associated with metastasis; with a result of 10 or more kidneys, a high degree of tumor budding associated with a high potential for metastasis by the lymphogenous or hematogenous route. For additional detection of the site of tumor budding in case of insufficient visualization of tumor buds using hematoxylin and eosin staining, an immunohistochemical method with PanCK antibodies AE1/AE3 CK is used.
EFFECT: invention provides an extension of methods for predicting the behavior of non-specific breast cancer.
