FIELD: environmental protection.

SUBSTANCE: method for water purification using electric discharge plasma. The method for purifying water from phenol consists in treating water in the reactor vessel with an electric discharge plasma created in the gas phase above a liquid layer, when a plasma-forming gas, oxygen, is supplied at a voltage of 12.5-16.5 kV. A layer of catalyst is placed inside the vessel, having the form of spheres, consisting of an aluminum oxide carrier, on which platinum is deposited in a uniform layer at a content of 0.11 wt.%.

EFFECT: reduction of oxygen consumption, reduction of the required contact time of contaminated water with the discharge zone, as well as an increase in the concentration of solutions that can be purified while maintaining the purifying efficiency at the level of 99.9%.
