FIELD: papermaking.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for measuring hydrophobic contaminants in cellulose pulp or in a papermaking system, which includes the following steps: providing an aqueous sample of paper from a pulp and paper mill, filtering an aqueous sample of paper from a pulp and paper mill, while obtaining a filtrate containing particles, obtaining an image of the particles in the measured filtrate volume. The method also includes the steps of analysing an image to determine particle size and morphology in the measured filtrate volume, identifying spherical particles of about 1 mcm to about 10 mcm in size in the measured filtrate volume that have a roundness of about 0.5 or more and an aspect ratio of about 0.7 or more in the measured volume of the filtrate, and determining the number of spherical particles with a size from approximately 1 mcm to approximately 10 mcm in the measured volume of the filtrate.
EFFECT: this method is useful to the specialists in the field of papermaking for diagnosing deposits, preventing them, and optimizing treatment with soil control agents.
