FIELD: insulating foams.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a composition of a polyurethane insulating foam, as well as a method for producing a rigid closed-cell polyurethane insulating foam. The polyurethane insulation foam composition contains (i) an aromatic isocyanate compound, (ii) an isocyanate-reactive compound, (iii) water, (iv) a tertiary amine compound, (v) from 0.2 to 4 carboxyl group equivalents per equivalent of tertiary amines in the component (iv) a hydrophilic carboxylic acid compound, (vi) a halogenated olefinic blowing agent, (vii) less than 0.8 mol per mol component (v) of a stabilizing compound containing a non-alkoxylated polyhydroxy compound containing 4 or more hydroxyl groups, (viii) optionally other additives. The present invention provides a polyurethane insulation foam composition using blowing agents having at least some of the following characteristics: (i) zero or near zero ozone depletion properties, (ii) zero or near zero global warming potential, (iii) no VOCs and (iv) not expensive to use in a safe manner.
EFFECT: foams made from these compositions retain the excellent insulating properties and low densities for which closed-cell rigid polyurethane foams are known.
