SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the coding of audio signals. An audio decoding method, including reception of a two-channel downmix signal and upmix parameters for restoration of a M-channel audio signal based on the downmix signal, signal reception (S) indicating the selected one of at least two encoding formats of the M-channel audio signal divided into respective first and second groups of one or more channels, calculating the first upmix signal as a linear display of the downmix signal, calculating the second upmix signal as a linear display of the downmix signal, and combining the first and second signals upmixing to obtain a multidimensional reconstructed signal corresponding to the M-channel sound signal, while M-channel sound signal has a predetermined channel configuration, and said selected coding format is switched between at least two coding formats.

EFFECT: increased reliability when decoding the audio signal.
