FIELD: organic chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for obtaining a new neocuproin derivative of the formula I. The method includes the interaction of neocuproin with ethyltrifluoropyruvate in a medium of boiling 1,2-dichloroethane for 6 h, hydrolysis of the resulting product proceeding in a water-ethanol medium under the action of sodium hydroxide at boiling for 2 h, and subsequent acidification with a hydrochloric acid solution.

EFFECT: expanding the range of methods for obtaining carboxyl-containing derivatives of 1,10-phenanthroline used as multi-purpose organic compounds, such as ligands for the synthesis of luminescent complex compounds.
