SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for verifying the number of media in a media storage unit. The technical result is achieved due to the fact that when the media is removed from the media storage unit and the media is moved, the serial number of the media is determined by means of the recognition unit; the media serial number determined by the recognition unit is compared with a database entry in which serial numbers of media stored in the media storage unit are recorded, and a serial number that matches the determined media serial number is searched for; and when the result of the search includes a matching serial number, the media data corresponding to the matching serial number and the top media data recorded in the database are deleted, and based on the bottom media data remaining after deletion, the database entry is updated with respect to the number of media, stored in the corresponding media storage unit.
EFFECT: improved accuracy of verification of the number of media stored in a cassette or drum of a media storage unit upon completion of recovery after a failure due to a media jam.
