FIELD: electrical power engineering.
SUBSTANCE: for an overhead power line, the accuracy of determining the location of a short circuit is set with an error not exceeding the length of one span of the power transmission line, the error in determining the location of the short circuit is calculated or determined by means of simulation modelling due to the inhomogeneity of the distribution of resistivity along the line, at the second stage, an extended inspection zone is formed (bypass) of an overhead power line, taking into account the error received and relative to the distance to the short circuit obtained from the expressions at the first stage, within the formed extended inspection zone, the location of the short circuit is determined using an iterative algorithm using the bitwise search method, when implementing the iterative algorithm, falls are taken into account voltages in sections of the overhead power line with a non-uniform distribution of resistivity along the line, relative to the short circuit location obtained using the iterative algorithm, a refined inspection area of the overhead power line is formed.
EFFECT: accurate determination of the location of a short circuit of an overhead power transmission line during non-synchronized measurements from its two ends under conditions of a non-uniform distribution of resistivity along the line.
