FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering and is intended for implementation in devices for determining the point of damage of power transmission lines, as well as in measuring devices for remote protection. Set of N methods of determining the point of damage is selected based on minimum errors in determining the point of damage, obtained from their implementation using simulation and oscillograms of emergency events recorded during actual damage. Operational information is obtained on parameters of emergency mode and results of intermediate calculations of distances of terminals, which register emergency events and installed at least at one substation. Distance to the point of damage l is calculated using the least squares method and the results of intermediate calculations of terminals which register emergency events.

EFFECT: simplifying the determination of the point of damage of power transmission lines while maintaining high accuracy.
