FIELD: electrical engineering; electrochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention and concerns the cathode material of water-activated batteries, which are designed to power meteorological radiosondes, pilot balloons, marine signalling devices, life-saving appliances, buoys, emergency radio beacons. The method for obtaining a cathode material includes grinding the initial mixture of powdered components in the presence of a moisturizing component, followed by pressing, while hydrated vanadium oxide is used as the initial mixture, pre-treated in a fluidized bed at a temperature of 40-60°C, and copper chloride dihydrate, taken in the ratio, wt.: hydrated vanadium oxide: copper chloride dihydrate 20: (13÷15), and the moisturizing component is used at the ratio of the initial mixture, g, to the moisturizing component, ml, of 2:1.
EFFECT: obtaining a cathode material for a water-activated battery without the use of environmentally harmful components, while at the same time providing a reduction in the activation time of the cathode mass by increasing the hydrophilicity of the surface of the resulting material (up to 10 s).
