FIELD: powder metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to powder metallurgy , namely to the preparation of tungsten carbide powder with cobalt based coating, used for the production of WC-Co hard alloys. Method involves mixing tungsten carbide powder with a hydrated cobalt salt of a carboxylic acid followed by heat treatment at temperature of 400–450 °C for 0.5–2 hours in an inert atmosphere or in a hydrogen atmosphere. Mixing is carried out by adding to tungsten carbide tetrahydrate of cobalt acetate or dihydrate of cobalt formate in ratio, in terms of Co2+, wt.%: WC : (Co(CH3COO)2∙4H2O or Co(HCOO)2·2H2O) = 9.0 – 9.4 : 1 – 0.6. Mixing is carried out in the presence of water taken in amount of 43.1–62.2 wt.% of the total weight at temperature of 70–85 °C, or in the presence of ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, taken in amount of 30.7–39.7 wt.% of the total weight, with continuous mechanical action with subsequent drying in vacuum at temperature of 70–85 °C.

EFFECT: obtaining powder with uniform distribution of cobalt on the surface of tungsten carbide particles.
