FIELD: biometric identification.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biometric identification of a person based on the determination of the fractal dimension of a fragment of a trace of the skin of a human body, free from a papillary pattern, and can be used in the identification study of material-fixed surface-colored traces. A method for identifying a person using a fractal dimension is proposed, which consists in fixing the reference value of the fractal dimension of the image of surface traces of human skin, calculating the fractal dimension of the image of the trace of the identified person, comparing the obtained value of the fractal dimension of the image of the trace of the identified person with the reference value, based on the results of comparing the judgment about personality identification. According to the invention, images of surface traces of human skin, free from papillary patterns, are analyzed, and to calculate the fractal dimension, each trace is covered with a grid with square cells of a characteristic sizeε and the number of such cells is determined. The surface- colored traces of human skin are analyzed.

EFFECT: extension of the functionality of the method of identifying a person, reducing the time and simplifying the procedure for identifying a person.
