FIELD: parking assistance.

SUBSTANCE: parking method and a parking assistance device. In a method for performing parking assistance for a subject vehicle, a parking assistance device is used, comprising a controller configured to output assistance information for a person in the subject vehicle based on movement information of the subject vehicle detected by a sensor, this method is to be performed by the controller and comprises the steps of: determining, based on the traffic information, whether the parking of the subject vehicle is performed in a manual mode or an automatic mode in which the parking control is performed to park the subject vehicle in a target parking space; when the parking of the subject vehicle is performed manually, detecting the state of parking of the subject vehicle; determining, based on the state of execution of the parking, whether or not to park again in the target parking space; when it is determined that parking in the target parking space is needed again, outputting to the user interface indication information for switching the parking mode of the subject vehicle from manual mode to automatic mode; and, when the parking control is executed in the automatic mode, no control is executed to output the indication information for switching the parking mode.
