SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of assisting in parking and a parking assistance device. Parking assistance method comprises determining whether a detected empty parking space satisfies a display condition for displaying a first auxiliary image, and displaying the first auxiliary image in an empty parking space which does not meet the display condition when the current set mode is a controlled mode. At that, the type of displaying the first auxiliary image displayed in an empty parking space, having a condition close to the display condition, from empty parking spaces not satisfying the display condition, differs from the type of displaying the first auxiliary image displayed in an empty parking space having a condition which is far from the display condition. Parking assistance device, which detects empty parking space around moving object, displays first auxiliary image, indicating the position of the empty parking space on the environment image seen from above the moving object, and sets the parking target using the displayed first auxiliary image.

EFFECT: timely determination of free parking space.
