The parking assistance method includes detecting a parking space for parking the vehicle under consideration, setting the steering wheel turn position, while the steering wheel of the considered vehicle is turned to the steering wheel turn position, forming a parking route to reach the parking space from the current position of the considered vehicle through the position of the steering wheel, and control of the vehicle in question for autonomous movement along the parking route. When forming the parking route, the direction of turn is additionally determined, in which the considered vehicle turns on the route for movement from the position of the steering wheel to the parking space, and the route is formed from the current position of the considered vehicle to the position of the steering wheel so that the steering direction of the considered vehicle corresponds to the direction turn while the vehicle in question is stopped in the steering wheel turn position.
