FIELD: pharmaceuticals.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing phenylacetylene from styrene in two stages. The method is characterized by the fact that the oxidative bromination of styrene is initially carried out at a molar ratio of the following reagents: potassium bromide: phosphoric acid:hydrogen peroxide:styrene equal to 1:2:3:0.33, with the formation of 1,2-dibromo-2-ethylbenzene which is then dehydrobrominated using potassium hydroxide in a molar ratio of 1:(2.4–2.5) in N-methylpyrrolidone for 1–2 hours at a temperature of 120–130°C, and the resulting potassium bromide is returned to the technological cycle.
EFFECT: developed method makes it possible to obtain the target product with a yield of more than 80% and a content of the main substance above 99%.
