FIELD: neurology and radiology.
SUBSTANCE: used for the differential diagnosis of multifocal motor neuropathy and Lewis-Sumner syndrome. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brachial plexuses is performed in STIR mode using its three-dimensional sequence. The intensity of the signal from the nerve elements of the brachial plexuses, the anterior branches of the spinal nerves and the left supraspinatus muscle is recorded. Then the signal intensity coefficient (CI) is calculated according to the stated formula. When the CI value is 1.45-1.71, multifocal motor neuropathy is diagnosed. If the CI value is 1.72 or more, Lewis-Sumner syndrome is diagnosed.
EFFECT: increased reliability of differential diagnosis of multifocal motor neuropathy and Lewis-Sumner syndrome.
