FIELD: railway transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention is related to automation and telemechanic devices for controlling car retarders at hump yards. The car retarder has hydraulic cylinders (HC) installed along the rail track with pistons and rods in the HC housing, the ends of the rods of which have a mushroom-shaped head to interact with the flanges of the car wheels. The body of each HC is fixed on the rail between the sleepers. The cavity under the piston of each HC is filled with working fluid. The HC is made with a hole for a fitting in the housing on the side of the cavity under the piston, while the cavities of adjacent HCs are connected to each other by a hydraulic line. The car retarder also has a control unit (CU) connected to sensors and actuators installed in the hydraulic line. An adjustable throttle with a controlled electric drive is installed in the hydraulic line connecting the cavities of the HC, and pressure sensors with electrical outputs are installed on both sides of the throttle in the hydraulic line. Each HC has a piston position sensor with electrical outputs. Each electric drive of the throttle of the HC pair is connected to a CU that controls at least one throttle. The electrical outputs of pressure sensors and HC piston position sensors are connected to the CU. The invention also describes control systems for a car retarder and methods for controlling a car retarder.

EFFECT: design of the car retarder is simplified, the speed of the control system and control accuracy are increased, and the efficiency of the car retarder at hump yards with a small car flow is increased.
