FIELD: metal casting.
SUBSTANCE: invention is related to processes related to metal casting and systems for monitoring the metal casting process. The system (100) for monitoring a casting operation includes a mould (102) defining an opening for receiving molten metal (106); a chute (104) configured to deliver molten metal (106) to the mould (102) during a casting operation; a camera (110) having a field of view (118) and configured to capture first optical data associated with at least one component of the casting operation; and a controller comprising a processor configured to execute instructions stored on a non-transitory computer-readable medium in a memory, the controller causing the processor to perform processor operations including: receiving said first optical data associated with said at least one component of a casting operation; generating, based on at least the first optical data, a profile associated with the casting operation, wherein the profile includes information related to said at least one component, such as the temperature of the mould, the height of the molten metal in the mould, the amount of molten metal in the mould, the temperature of the molten metal, the condition of the mould or any relevant information relating to the mould; comparing the profile to a base profile, wherein the base profile contains several values or an acceptable range of values associated with optimal mould operation and casting environments; and determining based on the comparison whether a particular event has occurred, wherein the event may be an event that needs to be corrected or an event indicating a positive result, wherein said processor operations further include: receiving second optical data associated with said at least one component of the casting operation; updating a profile associated with the casting operation based on at least the second optical data, comparing the updated profile with the base profile, and determining based on the comparison whether a particular event has occurred.
EFFECT: reduction of labour intensity during installation.
