FIELD: casting.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to recording events in a casting system, and more particularly, to systems and methods for an event detection system that collects data associated with events during the production of an ingot by a casting system, determines the characteristics of these events and makes improvements to the casting system and/or casting operations based on published events. An installation for recording events during a casting operation contains: a casting mould; a channel configured to deliver molten metal to a mould for casting the molten metal into an ingot; a sensor configured to detect acoustic signals during a casting operation, the sensor collecting sensor data associated with the casting operation; a controller comprising a processor configured to execute instructions stored in a non-volatile computer readable medium in a storage device, the controller causing the processor to perform processor operations including: comparing sensor data to a set of acoustic profiles; determining, based on comparison, whether a particular type of event has occurred; forcing adjustments to be made regarding a casting installation or operation based on whether a particular type of event has occurred; and initiating a second casting operation using the adjusted casting system or casting operation.
