FIELD: foundry production.

SUBSTANCE: mould (102) control system (100) comprising mould walls defining an opening for receiving molten metal (106) includes chamber (110) and controller (112). The camera's field of view includes at least a portion of the mould wall, and the camera acquires optical data associated with the portion of the mould wall. The said portion of the mould wall contains marks visible to the camera to assist in determining the level of molten metal in the mould. The controller includes a processor executing instructions stored in a non-volatile computer readable medium in a storage device, the controller causing the processor to perform operations including obtaining the first optical data associated with the portion of the mould wall and determining, based on that data, the level of molten metal in the mould.

EFFECT: provides control of the metal level in the mould or the distance between the lower block and part of the metal ingot during casting and regulation of the casting process.
