SUBSTANCE: method includes monitoring the resistance over time of a tubing enclosed conductor (TEC) that electrically connects a first downhole tool to a second downhole tool located in a wellbore deeper than the first downhole tool, and detecting that the TEC has experienced its first TEC failure in response to a change in resistance that is greater than the failure threshold and in response to an amount of change time that is less than the failure time threshold.
EFFECT: provides the ability to predict specific locations where TEC malfunction or failure has occurred, the ability to detect fluid plugging and the presence of foreign fluids in the well.
