SUBSTANCE: invention is related to hookah devices configured to heat tobacco without burning the tobacco. A hookah device (100) for use with a cartridge (20) containing an aerosol-generating substrate (302), the hookah device (100) comprising: a vessel (17) defining an interior portion configured to receive a liquid (19), and forming an outlet (18) communicating with the interior of the vessel (17); a socket (5) configured to accommodate a cartridge (20); and an electric heating element (4) configured to heat the aerosol generating substrate (302) in the cartridge (20) to generate an aerosol when the cartridge (20) is placed in the socket (5), and an activated element (310) configured with the possibility, when activated, of piercing the cartridge (20) located in the socket (5), creating holes in the cartridge (20) for air flow through the cartridge (20).

EFFECT: provision of a hookah device that uses a substrate that does not lead to formation of combustion by-products.
